“Maybe the problem is that you broke my heart into a million pieces and so my cock doesn’t want to be around you anymore!”
Peter (Jason Segel) is blindsided when long-term girlfriend and television actress, Sarah (Kristen Bell) breaks up with him. Trying to forget about the relationship for just a second, Peter takes a trip to Hawaii, only to discover that Sarah and her new boyfriend, Aldous (Russell Brand) are taking a vacation too.
Poor Peter. He’s a lovable, dorky dude, but he wasn’t paying attention to Sarah’s signals during the relationship. She insists that she tried self-help books and seminars, even changed her appearance to try and get Peter to take better care of himself while they were together, but Peter stayed the same. Whether or not Sarah tried talking to Peter about this is unclear, but the fact is that sometimes people work hard at a relationship and it just doesn’t work out the way we expect.
Peter and Sarah reconnect while they are in Hawaii and Sarah makes a few fleeting attempts to resume their sexual relationship. However, Peter notices that the spring he used to have in his step toward Sarah is actually gone.
Though Peter’s experience is transient and probably not indicative (in-dick-ative?) of an underlying disease, impotence is a common problem for men; and it’s one that guys can be really insecure about.
Common causes of Impotence include:
- Medical Conditions
Certain hormonal or nerve disorders can contribute to impotence.
Medications – especially those that affect hormone or nerve communication – may lead to impotence.
Peter’s problem lies here; stress is one of the most common causes of impotence – temporary or otherwise. Peter’s attempt at a tryst with Sarah reminds him of how she made him feel and this causes undue stress, which leads to his performance problems.
The good news is that Peter’s brain is ahead of his body; he knows that getting back together with someone who left their whole relationship in such a cold way is probably a terrible idea. Once Peter shuts down the idea of getting back together with Sarah, he finally works on the most important relationship in his life – the one he has with himself.
